How We Made A 16 foot Tall Grim Reaper.
Welcome to Part II of the telling of our tale, “The Rise of UberGrim”! If you haven’t started with Part I you may want to and also maybe give our beware page a look. For those of you who already have, once again, lets get right into it!
For this next part, we kind of fell down on the picture taking and don‘t have any that show how we put the body and arm shape together.
Thankfully it was pretty simple so we think we‘ll able to get by with our grade-school illustrations!
First off, for each side, we used two 2x4s to build out the body shape and the arm shape. For the rounded shape of Arm we once again used the stucco wire. These new parts were then skinned with the black sided lumber tarps. There were six tarps in total.
The body shape tarps were stretched across the length of the body shape 2×4. One corner at the top and the opposite corner at the bottom with the excess billowing out behind toward the haunt building structure. The arm shape tarps were squares folded opposite corner to corner which made a triangle. These triangles were then draped over the arm shape 2x4s and roughly sewn together with wire.
Of course as you can see from the pics, we drilled holes in his eyes and installed a couple of red Christmas lights for the final effect.
And that was pretty much it! Overall, really quite a simple Halloween prop project that had a huge impact on all of our guests and anyboy who drove by!! (sorry for the pun couldn’t resist : ))
Like we said at the top of this Halloween prop building tale, “This was our most colossal home haunting dream come true to date! “ and for the record we have no idea whatsoever of how we are going to top this! Maybe will we or maybe we won‘t but we sure had fun with The Rise of UberGrim for the 2009 Halloween season!
Thanks for Looking – Happy Haunting!.Cheers ScreamingScarecrow.
