A Sharp Tip on the different fastening attributes of screws and nails. When we build a Halloween prop that has to be stronger than most others we think it is a good idea to use both nails and screws because each has a different fastening attribute.
Nails hold things together and have some give so they can bend from side to side slightly but can be pulled apart. Whereas screws hold things tightly together and are very difficult to pull apart but they cannot take side to side stress and can shear off with side ways force.
This is why when we want something to be extra sturdy we use a combination of screws and nails
